You're not the only one.

Big feelings and pressure are part of growing up. Talking helps.

You make a real difference.

Healthy smiles at every age

Tooth decay and gum changes are very common, and very manageable. Small, steady habits and regular preventive care make a real difference, and more Canadian adults are keeping their teeth today than 15 years ago.

57%

Common in kids. Canadian children aged 6–11 who have had tooth decay. Most of it is preventable.

83%

Common in adults. Adults with gums that bled in at least one spot during a check. Gums respond well to good daily care.

22% to 8%

Good news. Adults aged 60–79 who had lost all their teeth, down over about 15 years.

What makes preventive care work

Research reviews from Cochrane, an independent international health research network, show that simple preventive steps protect teeth.

Children

Strong starts

Fluoride varnish was linked to about 37% less decay in baby teeth. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste and fewer sugary snacks help too.

Youth

Protect new adult teeth

Fluoride varnish was linked to about 43% less decay in permanent teeth. Sealants on back molars also help, along with mouthguards for sport and extra care with braces.

Adults

Gums, comfort and confidence

Daily brushing and flossing, regular cleanings and early check-ins keep gums healthy, and help catch issues like jaw tension or teeth grinding early.

Sources: Cochrane reviews of fluoride varnish (2013) and sealants (2017). Ask us which preventive options suit your family.

Daily habits for students

  • Brush 2 minutes, twice a day, with fluoride toothpaste
  • Floss once a day
  • Pick water over pop, sports and energy drinks
  • Wear a mouthguard for contact sports
  • Braces? Brush after meals

Connected to your care team

We work within a network of dentists, family doctors, specialists and allied health providers, so your care stays coordinated.
